There are many ways that we are connecting in with our local schools, providing students and teachers with hands-on, practical and creative ways for kids to learn more about our environment and what they can do to protect it.
The overall objectives of all our activities are to:
|
| Increase students knowledge and understanding of catchments and waterway networks | |
Develop an appreciation for the need to conserve and appreciate local biodivesity values, including fauna and flora, ecosystems, habitat types and ecological processes and functions
Engage the students in fun environmental activities to deliver positive environmental messages |
|
| What’s on offer for schools: | |
| In class presentations and activities on environmental issues such as catchment and waterway health and protection, water conservation, ecosystems, wildlife and climate change. | |
School excursions (this year we ran the Lota Alive excursions where students were engaged in a live wildlife presentation, mangrove guided tour and bushcraft and other interactive activities at Bill Lammond Park at Lota).
Tree planting activities either on school grounds or on public land (eg Manly West SS may wish to participate in the Bayside Habitat Restoration and Connections Project. Information on opportunities associated with this project is enclosed).
Ecotours and wildlife watching.
Water quality monitoring. |
|
The Bayside Creeks Catchment Group applies for funding to assist in the delivery of some of the activities listed above, in particular for school excursions and to pay for materials associated with tree plantings, so in many cases there is little to no financial contributions required from the schools.
