In WynnumBack to top

The Wynnum Creek has priority sites in need of rehabilitation and protection.

We work on these sites with individual community members, the Council and various community groups and business's.

We work with these organisations to help advise and support the physical restoration of the areas. We also work with the local community to help encourage better local knowledge and understanding of the local area.

Although Wynnum Creek has been highly urbanised and many environmental values have been lost.

There is still scope for considerable revegetation and creek rehabilitation in the remaining natural areas of the creek.

Rehabilitation and Restoration of the creekline will help to:

Improve natural habitat to support our native wildlife;
Improve water quality, which is vital for the health of the international wetlands situated at the mouth of the creek in the Moreton Bay Marine Park;
Enhance the scenic amenity/views of the area;
Improve property values.

The Holden Landcare Project is in it's second year now, so members of the local community are encouraged to help out on that site. Other opportunities for community involvement include:

clean-up days;
nesting box monitoring, bird watching and mangrove walks;
tree planting and weeding at the Holden Landcare site.

In Lota and lower TingalpaBack to top

Lota and lower Tingalpa Creek catchments have lots of natural areas to look after. The ongoing protection of these areas will depend on the coordinated efforts of Council, the community and the Bayside Creeks Catchment Group.

There a number of ways the community can lend a hand to look after our natural areas.

We also encourage private landowners to 'manage their own patch’ for the benefit of the creek and catchment.

There are currently three active bushcare groups in the Lota and lower Tingalpa Creek catchments which are the Harman’s Reserve, Melaleuca Environmental Park and 108 Greencamp Road Habitat Brisbane groups.

These groups meet on site regularly to undertake planting and weeding acitivities and are always looking for more volunteers.

Besides joining in on one of the bushcare groups’ working bees you may also like to particpate in:

clean-up days
wildlife monitoring including bird surveys and nest-box checks
participate in the Bayside Habitat Rehabilitation and Connections Project at Lota through to Wakerley
come along on canoe trips in Tingalpa Creek or birdwalks along the Lota boardwalk
