The Bayside Environmental Network (BEN) was formed in 1991 and in 2006 changed it’s name to the Bayside Creeks Catchment Group to recognise the group’s focus on improving catchment and waterway health in the Wynnum, Lota and Lower Tingalpa Creek catchments.
|
The overall aim of the Bayside Creeks Catchment Group is to protect and enhance the health and natural processes of Wynnum, Lota and Lower Tingalpa Creeks and their catchments. This also means identifying threatening processes in these catchments and devising actions to reduce their impacts. The health of the catchments is under pressure due to increased development and other human impacts. The Bayside Creeks Catchment Group has formed in response to the need to look after these precious areas.

| have catchments with ecological integrity and high bio-diversity values | |
improve, protect, enhance and restore the catchments and waterways; and
build and share a knowledge and understanding of the Catchments, through community engagement, education, awareness and support; |
|
We are achieving this by:
|
| Looking after natural bush land areas through replanting and weeding (e.g. Mookin-bah Reserve and Wynnum Creek Restoration) | |
Promoting the importance of caring for our precious environment with our local community and schools (With the general community through a series of environmental action days like the Bush to Bay Breaky, Making the Connections Day and the upcoming World Wetlands Day, with schools through the Catchment Kids program and attending schools upon request).
Monitoring the health of the animals and waterways in the catchments (e.g. via the Wildlife Monitoring program and various water quality snapshot days).
Working with local business and governments to ensure the values of the bayside catchments are protected (e.g. Clean up Australia day with the Port of Brisbane and Brisbane City Council). |
